LVD Inspection and Tests
The LVD, or Low Voltage Directive – 2014/35/EU applies to all electrical equipment powered from 50 to 1000V ac, or 75 to 1500V dc. This directive was introduced in 1973 and was later modified by the CE marking Directive under the ‘New Approach’ to allow the free movement of goods within the EU.
How to comply with 2014/35/EU
The recommended way to demonstrate compliance with the above directive is as :
Identify the standard that applies to your product. Ensure that the correct standard is applied to your equipment as errors could be costly.
Below you will find a list of standards typically used for 2014/35/EU:
- EN60335-1 2010. Domestic appliances
- EN60950-1 2006. Computers, business and office equipment.
- EN61010-1 2010. Scientific and measuring instruments
- EN60065 2002. Audio and Video equipment
- EN60204-1 2006. Electrical Equipment of Machines
Perform an assessment in accordance with the applicable standard to identify any safety tests required to prove compliance.
Compile a test report demonstrating all safety results. This will include pictures, schematics, parts lists and mechanical drawings to form an LVD technical file. Retain this file in a safe place.
The technical assessment has been completed and the requirements of the directive have been met. At this point a Declaration of Conformity for the LVD can be completed.
